Records tumble as Denver hits 100 degrees today

Record High Temperatures

Yesterday, Denver set a record high temperature for the month of September. We followed that up by breaking the day-old record and also breaking two others.

The high temperature today in the Mile High City, as measured at Denver International Airport, topped out at 100 degrees.

This easily tops the record high temperature for September 2 of 95 degrees set in 1983. Further, this is the hottest temperature ever recorded in Denver in the month of September, topping yesterday’s record-setting 98 degrees.

Lastly, this is the latest a 100 degree or higher reading has been recorded in Denver. The previous latest was August 16, 2002.

Thornton actually was a touch warmer today with a high of 101 degrees.

Denver sets record high for September 1 and for the entire month of September

Record High TemperaturesIt was a hot one indeed! We knew the potential was there for record-breaking heat this Labor Day weekend and indeed it came to fruition.

Denver’s high temperature today, as measured at DIA, topped out at 98 degrees at 1:17pm.

This not only set a new record high temperature for September 1 but it also marks the warmest temperature ever recorded in the Mile High City in the month September.

The previous record high for today, and for September, was 97 degrees set in 1995.

Here in Thornton, we managed to actually be hotter than DIA, topping out at 101 degrees.

If that wasn’t hot enough for you, wait till tomorrow as we may see today’s record setting readings broken.

Denver ties record high temperature for August 19

Record High Temperatures

As expected, temperatures across the Front Range climbed toward record-setting territory today and the Mile High City tied the 21 year old record high.

As measured at Denver International Airport, Denver’s high temperature today hit 99 degrees. That tied the old record high for the date set in 1998.

Here in Thornton, we matched that 99 degree reading at 1:49pm.

Denver ties record high for September 13, second high temp record of the week

Record High TemperaturesAnd down goes another record! We didn’t expect it to get quite as hot as it did but Mother Nature gave the mercury a little extra push into record-setting territory today.

Denver’s official high temperature, as measured at DIA, came in at 96 degrees today.  This tied the record high temperature for September 13 set in 1990 and 1895.

Here in Thornton, we were just a touch cooler as is the norm with a high of 94 degrees.

This is the second high temp record of this week as summer continues to hang on.  Two days ago, Denver broke the record high for September 11.

We wish we could say we were done with the 90+ degree readings for the season but that does not appear to be the case.

Currently it looks like we will be at or a bit above the 90 degree mark through Monday.  It may be the end of next week before we see any appreciable cooling.  Check out the extended forecast here.

Denver sets new record high temperature for September 11

Record High TemperaturesWe said this morning it was a possibility and sure enough, the record high for today’s date was broken.

The National Weather Service reports that Denver’s official high, as measured at DIA, hit 93 degrees this afternoon.  That tops the old record of 92 degrees set in 1951.

Here in Thornton, we fell short of the mark, likely due to afternoon cloud cover reaching us before it did the airport. Our high came in at 91 degrees at 12:44pm.

Believe it or not, we may see another record or two fall before the end of the week.

Tomorrow’s high is forecast at 94 degrees, the same as the record high for the date. Thursday’s record high of 96 is not likely to be broken but we could come within a couple of degrees.  Friday and Saturday’s record highs are both 92 degrees and we may come very, very close to those marks.

Denver ties record high temperature for June 9

Record High TemperaturesWe knew the weekend was going to be a scorcher and sure enough, it has been thus far.

Today, the high temperature in Denver as measured at Denver International Airport topped out at 95 degrees at 4:00pm. This tied the record high temperature for June 9 last set in 2012.

Here in Thornton we matched that number with a 95 degree high of our own as well.

This was the second record high temperature reading of the past week as on Tuesday we tied the record high for June 5.

More heat is expected on Sunday with highs potentially coming in a couple of degrees warmer than today. We then will see a weak cold front cool things down slightly Monday and Tuesday but then the heat returns for the latter half of the workweek.  See our extended forecast for details.

Denver ties record high temperature for June 5

Record High TemperaturesThe recent heat is much more like we would expect to see toward the middle of July.  High pressure though keeps the cooler air at bay and today Denver tied the record high temperature for the date.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw an official high of 95 degrees. That ties the record high last set in 1946.

Here in Thornton, we were actually warmer by a good measure, something that doesn’t happen often. We topped out at 98 degrees at 3:06pm.

We will see a little bit of a reprieve from the heat tomorrow as a cold front moves through.  Highs Wednesday should be in the upper 80s.  After that though, the heat returns with 90+ degrees forecasted each day through the weekend.

Denver sets record high temperature for May 10 shattering old mark

Record High TemperaturesIt was almost certain today was going to bring record-setting temperatures for the date and sure enough, it did.

The old record high for May 10 was 86 degrees set in 1991 and years prior. The National Weather Service reports that at 3:51pm today the temperature hit 90 degrees, easily breaking the record.

Additionally, this is the fourth earliest in the season that Denver has seen a 90 degree mercury reading since record keeping began in the Mile High City in 1872.

Here in Thornton we managed to be just a little bit cooler with a high of 89 degrees at 3:34pm.

Tomorrow things cool down and the weather becomes a bit unsettled. Look for highs near 80 with a good chance of PM storms.  Then, this weekend gets cooler and brings even better chances for precipitation.

See the extended forecast here.

Denver ties record high temperature for April 29

Record High TemperaturesA toasty spring day in the Mile High City.  Afternoon cloud cover cooled things down but not before we tied a record high temperature for today dating to 1948.

At DIA where Denver’s official measurements are taken, the high temperature reached 83 degrees.  Here in Thornton, we were just a bit warmer with a high of 84 degrees.

Both readings were far and above the average high for today’s date of 65 degrees.

Tomorrow promises to be another mild day with highs in the mid-70s but then the weather turns cooler and a bit more unsettled with chances for precipitation Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. See our extended forecast for details.
