The recent heat is much more like we would expect to see toward the middle of July.  High pressure though keeps the cooler air at bay and today Denver tied the record high temperature for the date.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw an official high of 95 degrees. That ties the record high last set in 1946.

Here in Thornton, we were actually warmer by a good measure, something that doesn’t happen often. We topped out at 98 degrees at 3:06pm.

We will see a little bit of a reprieve from the heat tomorrow as a cold front moves through.  Highs Wednesday should be in the upper 80s.  After that though, the heat returns with 90+ degrees forecasted each day through the weekend.

It was almost certain today was going to bring record-setting temperatures for the date and sure enough, it did.

The old record high for May 10 was 86 degrees set in 1991 and years prior. The National Weather Service reports that at 3:51pm today the temperature hit 90 degrees, easily breaking the record.

Additionally, this is the fourth earliest in the season that Denver has seen a 90 degree mercury reading since record keeping began in the Mile High City in 1872.

Here in Thornton we managed to be just a little bit cooler with a high of 89 degrees at 3:34pm.

Tomorrow things cool down and the weather becomes a bit unsettled. Look for highs near 80 with a good chance of PM storms.  Then, this weekend gets cooler and brings even better chances for precipitation.

A toasty spring day in the Mile High City.  Afternoon cloud cover cooled things down but not before we tied a record high temperature for today dating to 1948.

At DIA where Denver’s official measurements are taken, the high temperature reached 83 degrees.  Here in Thornton, we were just a bit warmer with a high of 84 degrees.

Both readings were far and above the average high for today’s date of 65 degrees.

Tomorrow promises to be another mild day with highs in the mid-70s but then the weather turns cooler and a bit more unsettled with chances for precipitation Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. See our extended forecast for details.

We knew today was going to be unseasonably warm and the numbers backed that up.

The National Weather Service reports that Denver’s high temperature today, as measured at Denver International Airport, topped out at 65 degrees. That matches the record high temperature for the date last set in 1920.

Here in Thornton, we were a bit cooler with a high of 62.8 degrees.

With high temperatures tomorrow expected to reach similar heights, we may set another record Friday. The record high for January 19 is 68 degrees last set in 1986.

Our very mild weather today led to another high temperature record, something we have seen a few time over the past month or so.

At 1:58pm, the high temperature in Denver reached 69 degrees as measured at Denver International Airport. This tied the record high for the date set in 1895.  The average high for the date is 43 degrees.

Today’s event is the fourth record high that has been set or tied in the last eight weeks (October 25, November 26, November 27).  The record high on November 27 of 81 degrees was also the warmest November reading ever recorded in Denver.

Here in Thornton we matched the Mile High City’s temperature with a reading of 69 degrees as well coming at 2:16pm.

A double shot of high temperature records for the Mile High City today.

As measured at Denver International Airport, Denver saw a high today of 81 degrees at 12:56pm.  This easily bested the record high temperature for November 27 of 74 degrees set in 1950 and 1903.

Additionally, the 81 degree reading is the warmest reading ever seen in the month of November. The old record was 80 degrees on the 8th of 2006 & the 16th of 2016.

Of course the key to all of the above is the “as measured at Denver International Airport.”  Since moving Denver’s official weather station to the airport far east of its historical locations, we have seen similar occurrences of temperature extremes that don’t mate up with stations close to the city.

Today for example, the station at the Denver City Park recorded a high of 78 degrees.  Still a record but a far cry from what the airport reported.  As a result, these new records really should come with an asterisk.

Here in Thornton, we saw a high of 77.5 degrees at 1:24pm.

Pretty big changes are on the way tonight when a cold front arrives. That will send temperatures down and bring us a chance for snow overnight. Details in the extended forecast here.

The unusually warm temperatures we have seen this month definitely make it hard to believe we are now at the end of November. Today continued the trend as the mercury climbed into record-setting territory.

At 2:16pm the temperature topped out at 74 degrees at Denver’s official station at Denver International Airport.  These easily bested the record high temperature for the date of 72 degrees set in 1998.

Here in Thornton we were just a touch warmer with a high of 74.5 degrees.

The temperatures today continue the trend of a very warm, dry November.  Currently, the overall average temperature for the month is running nearly five degrees above normal.
