Temperatures this weekend were more akin to what we expect in August than what we normally see in the second week of October.  That bears out with the fact we broke the all-time record high temperature for today’s date.

At 1:46pm the temperature at Denver International Airport, Denver’s official station, topped out at 87 degrees.  This easily bests the previous record high for October 11 of 85 degrees recorded in 1996 and 1975.

Here in Thornton, we matched the 87 degree reading at 2:28pm.

The extended forecast does provide for cooler temperatures for the rest of the week, however they will continue to be a good bit above average for this time of year.  Get the extended forecast here.

With only a couple of days left in summer, Mother Nature seems to be indicating the season won’t go down without a fight.  Denver broke a high temperature record today that has been on the books for more than a century.

As officially recorded at Denver International Airport, the high temperature today topped out at 89 degrees.  This bests the old record for the date of 88 degrees set in 1885 and is well above the average for today’s date of 77 degrees.

Here in Thornton we were only minutely cooler with a high of 88 degrees today.

Looking ahead, we do expect to see some cooling in the days ahead. However, temperatures are expected to remain above normal through at least the weekend.  Get the extended forecast here.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s high temperature reached 97 degrees at 2:33pm. This ties the record for the date set in 1985 and 1936.

Today, here in Thornton we were just a bit cooler topping out at 95 degrees.

The event makes it the fourth temperature record set or tied in Denver this month.

On August 15 Denver tied the record high for the date (98 degrees). This was followed by record lows on August 18 and 19 (47 degrees on both days).

The mercury climbed fast today and it was unrelenting as it did so.  As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City officially reached a high of 98 degrees. This tied the record high for the date last set in 1960.

Here in Thornton, we matched that with a 98 degree maximum as well.  This was actually our warmest temperature reading of the year, topping the 96 degrees we registered on July 27 and August 1.

Thankfully, relief from the heat is not too far away.  A cold front will move through tomorrow keeping highs right around 90 degrees.  This will be followed by a trough which will bring temperatures down another 10 degrees (or more) Monday through Wednesday.

To go along with our Mother’s Day snow, we also have seen some cold – record-setting cold in fact.

Denver’s official low temperature, as measured at Denver International Airport, dropped to 27 degrees this morning.  That ties the record low for today’s date set previously in 1946.

Here in Thornton we were just a little bit warmer with a low of 28 degrees this morning.

In terms of snowfall, Denver reported 4.0 inches at DIA as of 7:00am this morning.  Here in Thornton we received 5.1 inches.

Looking ahead, the record low for May 11 is 28 degrees (also in 1946).  With clearing skies later today and into tonight, it wouldn’t be surprising to see that mark tied or broken tomorrow AM.

Following on yesterday’s record high temperature, we repeated today with another, even warmer reading that broke the record for the date.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City topped out at 81 degrees. This crushes the old record high temperature for March 16 of 75 degrees set in 2012.

Here in Thornton we were actually a little bit warmer at 82.6 degrees.  That is the warmest temperature we have seen since way back on September 27 of last year.

Yesterday Denver saw a high of 79 degrees (80 degrees in Thornton) which broke the old record for that date of 76 degrees.

Spring may officially be five days away but you wouldn’t know it from today’s weather.  The mercury climbed steadily under sunny skies and Denver set a high temperature record.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City topped out at 79 degrees.  This easily bested the old mark of 76 degrees set in 2013.

Here in Thornton we were one degree warmer reaching 80 degrees.  This was Thornton’s warmest temperature reading since October 25 of last year.

Another high temperature record is in danger of falling tomorrow as well.  The record high for March 16 is 75 degrees set in 2012.  Forecast highs for the day are right at that same mark.
